Randi’s Bucket List

Bucket List

The question I keep asking myself as I consider my bucket list is…. How on God’s green earth did someone like me, who is so often hindered by fears both real and imaginary, ever manage to give birth to a child that would list jumping off Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park as the first item on their bucket list????  I am afraid of so many real things – the dark, lightning (for very good reason), telemarketers, spiders (I made the mistake of watching Arachnophobia as a young adult), falling (I’m already afraid of tripping and falling; you would never get me to jump from someplace high!!).  As for the imaginary things, let me just say, I have a VERY good imagination.

Unfortunately, my fear has kept me from trying things that I probably would have enjoyed.  However, since I have no desire to kick the bucket while doing the things on my bucket list, to some my list may seem tame.  Things you would never see on my bucket list would include for example: sky diving, swimming with sharks, rappelling into a volcano, etc.  Call me chicken.  I DON’T CARE.

One of the main things that I want to accomplish is to get out of debt. Debt can put a stranglehold on your life and keep you from doing the things you want to do.  For a while now, we have been using the common sense principles taught by Dave Ramsey to help us get out of debt. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you use self-discipline and follow a plan.  We are not there yet, but we are definitely making progress.

I also want to write a song.  Tame, I know.  But I don’t just want to write any old song: I want to write a good song that people would actually want to sing.  As a musician, this should not be difficult for me, but I seem to be challenged in the song writing area.

There are many beautiful places that I would like to see.  I would love to spend some time on the Oregon coast and on the Maine coast.  I want to see Niagara Falls and Glacier National Park.  I want to hike the Narrows in Zion National Park.  I especially want to see Hawaii.  I even promised my hubby that if he took me to Hawaii, I would go up in a helicopter so we could see the spectacular views.  The thought of riding in a helicopter scares me to death, but I am not going to let unreasonable fear hold me back any more! Am I ready to jump off Angel’s Landing in a squirrel suit? No, but hey! Baby steps!
